The jury found Prof. Manoli's teaching project "Microelectronics – Teaching Complex Technical Relationships by Means of Intuition and Interaction" convincing, particularly the interactive online learning platform "SpicyVOLTsim." Manoli plans to use the 50,000 euros in prize money to expand this platform and extend its functionality. For instance, the program could soon be used at Baden-Württemberg schools in natural sciences and technical subjects. The platform is one of a kind – for example, the program uses 3D animation to illustrate the interaction between power and voltage.
The winners presented their projects at the awards ceremony. Manoli had already received the University Teaching Award for the teaching project in October 2010. He is assistant dean of the Faculty of Engineering and is co-director of the Institute of Micro and Information Technology of the Hahn-Schickard-Gesellschaft e.V. (HSG-IMIT) in Villingen-Schwenningen along with his colleagues Prof. Holger Reinecke and Prof. Roland Zengerle. (Source: Faculty of Engineering of the University of Freiburg)
