The Rectorate works in close cooperation with all areas of the university.

The University of Freiburg is run by the collegial Rectorate. It is composed of the rector, who serves as its chair, the head of administration, who is in charge of economic and staff administration, two additional full-time vice presidents, and two part-time vice presidents.

In accordance with the State Higher Education Act, the Rectorate bears special responsibility for structure and developmental planning, planning regarding construction development, decisions on the use of property and the allocation of rooms, preparation and implementation of the budget, allocation of the positions and funding available to the university, and for human resources development.

The Rectorate also carries out the resolutions of the Senate and the University Council.

Legal Advisor of the Rector In accordance with the Constitution of the University of Freiburg, the rector is supported by a legal advisor, who is appointed by the rector in agreement with the Senate. The legal advisor to the rector attends the meetings of the Rectorate and the Senate as a permanent member (in an advisory capacity).

Equal Opportunity Representative In accordance with the State Higher Education Act, the faculty equal opportunity representative elected by the Senate is assigned directly to the Rectorate and has the right to report directly to it. She attends the meetings of the Rectorate as required (in an advisory capacity).

The Rectorate is responsible for structural and developmental planning, construction planning and development, decisions on the allocation of property and rooms, the calculation of budget estimates (and their approval), the allocation of positions and funds made available to the university, and human resources development.

The Rectorate carries out the resolutions of the Senate and the University Council. The rector represents the university in the public and is the chairperson of the Rectorate, the Senate, and its committees. The head of administration is responsible for the university budget and is in charge of the entire administration.
