The award is intended for teachers who offer courses that exhibit a particularly high level of methodological quality. Dr. Bihrer received the prize for his exercise course "Natürlich eine alte Handschrift... Editorische Übung" (Naturally an old Manuscript...Editing Exercise Course) from winter semester 2006/07. The course was built around the methodological principles of "learning through research" and combined theory and practice. The students edited sources they had previously been largely unfamiliar with, presented them to an audience of experts, and published them in academic journals. Dr. Bihrer was nominated for the State Teaching Award by students and representatives from the student committee of the Department of History.
